Of Women, Stereotypes, and Gender Barriers

“Whether I am meant to or not, I challenge assumptions about women. I do make some people uncomfortable, which I’m well aware of, but that’s just part of coming to grips with what I believe is still one of the most important pieces of unfinished business in human history—empowering women to be able to stand up for themselves.” – Hillary Clinton

Women across the world have to deal with barriers every day. Many lack the opportunities that are more easily available and accessible to men. Existing biases and stereotypes continue to hold back women in all areas of life. And at the workplace, women have to work much harder to gain recognition or get promoted. While there are strategies to promote diversity in the workplace, a lot of work still needs to be done on tackling the fundamental issues that continue to undermine women. And if you are wondering what women have to deal with every day, here are just a few of them.

Gender stereotypes
Girls should dress up in pink and play house.
Women are often seen to be fit for certain roles or jobs at the workplace like being secretaries or nurses instead of doctors.
They are also often seen as weaker than men.
The list is long and depressing. Because from the moment women are born they are already expected to think and behave according to societal norms.

Not getting the credit that is due to them
There have been a lot of instances when women have their ideas stolen from them and are being passed up for promotions. And the number of women in leadership roles is still dismally low.

Mansplaining
A lot of women experience having a man condescendingly explain something that is within their area of expertise. No matter how knowledgeable, skilled, and successful a woman is she is still perceived as inferior to men.

You Are Beautiful

Ever felt like no one cares for you? Ever felt like you are alone in this world?

I hope not – at least, not right now.

You see, we always have someone who cares about us. You also see, we always have someone who is beside us.

This kind of people – they are not just there to care about us, but also there to love us unconditionally. This kind of people – they are not just there beside us, but also there supporting us.

No matter what you’ve gone through, no matter what you’re going through, no matter what you’ll go through…always remember that we care about you and that we are there beside you.

And if you’re a woman, never let anyone tell you otherwise. You are beautiful, no matter what you’ve gone through. You are strong, no matter what you’re going through. You are both an even more, no matter what you’ll go through.

You are beautiful in your own way. You are strong in your own way. You are both and even more – and yes, no matter what other people might say. At the end of the day, it is not others who were there in your shoes. At the end of the day, it is not others who were there in your suffering.

Even more so, you are beautiful just like the bright stars under a clear night sky. No matter how long it takes for you to win in life, time will still come to help you shine in your own way. No matter how many it takes for you to lose in life, time will still come to help you in your own way.

And yes, just like the bright stars under a clear night sky.
